NOVARE EMPLOYEES LEND A HELPING HAND TO KZN FLOOD VICTIMS

“There can be no greater gift than that of giving one’s time and energy to helping others without expecting anything in return.” – Nelson R. Mandela

Novare staff were amongst the many South Africans who watched on the news as people and families in KwaZulu-Natal were severely affected by a natural disaster of flooding.

Severe flooding and landslides caused by heavy rainfall from 11-13 April resulted in the death of an estimated 448 people, displaced over 40,000 people, and destroyed homes and businesses.

Novare staff were touched by the plight of the victims in KZN and took the initiative to make a positive contribution.

Novare CEO, Ola Leepile said, although it has been a couple of months since the devastating floods, the effects are still being felt by many families and communities and the Novare staff were moved to do something to return life back to normality.

Leepile said he was particularly moved by what the staff decided, “They never asked anything of the company. What they requested was permission to gather what they could as individuals and link the company with the humanitarian organisation, the Gift of the Givers. Everyone wanted to contribute from their own pocket as a collective and make a difference. It has taken a couple of months, but staff managed to collect and donate clothes, non-perishables and blankets. The contributions were sent and received by Gift of the Givers.

“I am very moved and proud of the team for living up the our core values and making an impact in the lives of our people.  They have taken their time to give what they could without expecting anything in return,” said Leepile.

He says it was fitting that the staff was able to make their first donation during the Mandela Month and on the year where Nutrition had also been the theme for 2022.

“I am proud to be part of a team that is a living example of what we are trying to achieve for South Africans and the African continent at large; these small gestures go a long way toward alleviating the plight of those less fortunate among ourselves. I would also like to sincerely thank the Gift of the Givers for allowing us a vehicle to make a meaningful impact to society,” concluded Leepile.
